You Can Now Send And Receive Money in Gmail on Android

google wallet
Google Wallet was integrated into Gmail on the web since 2013, but now here is the latest update from Google wallet. Google has rolled out a new integration on mobile, which allows users of the Gmail app on Android to be able to send or request money with anyone, including those who don’t have a Gmail address, with just a tap.

Google explains in its announcement that this feature has been designed to make exchanging money as easy as attaching a file. To access the new feature, you tap the attachment icon (the paperclip), then choose either send or request money, depending on your needs. A pop-up window appears where you can input the amount and add a note, and send.

The entire process takes place in the Gmail app — you don’t have to have Google Wallet installed. In addition, recipients can configure it so the money they receive through Gmail goes directly into their bank account and the  best part if it is, there are no fees involved.

google wallet
The goal, seemingly, is to take on quick payment apps like PayPal, Venmo or Square Cash, by offering a feature to move money right within Gmail’s app. This could be useful for those times where the money is already a topic of an email conversation — like when you’re planning a trip with friends, or getting the family to go in together on a gift for your parents, for example.

This feature is not yet available to users in Nigeria. Let us know what your take is on this update.

Google Search For Android Now Available In Offline Mode

Google search offline mode
Google stuns its search users on android devices with the introduction of an offline mode. This mode will allow you to store up your searches on the Google app so you can see the results later when there’s stable connection. An effective feature, especially for the absent-minded ones.

Whats your take on this feature?
Is it really needed when you can use your notepad to save information and get them back anytime you choose to.

To get this feature simply update your Google app from the PlayStore.

Huawei Achieves Major Breakthrough in Graphene-Assisted High Temperature Li-ion Batteries

Huawei has announced a major breakthrough in its research into Li-ion batteries, unveiling the world's first long-lifespan graphene-assisted Li-ion battery able to withstand high temperatures. The announcement was made by Watt Laboratory, an organization under Huawei's Central Research Institute, at the 57th Battery Symposium held in Japan.

Huawei's research results show that new graphene-assisted heat-resistant technologies allow Li-ion batteries to remain functional in a 60°C environment, a temperature 10°C higher than the existing upper limit. The lifespan of the graphene-assisted Li-ion batteries will also be twice as long as ordinary Li-ion batteries.

Dr. Yangxing Li, Chief Scientist at Watt Laboratory, pointed out that three technologies contributed to the breakthrough in the graphene-assisted high-temperature Li-ion battery. First, a special additive in the electrolytes can remove trace water and prevent the electrolytes from decomposition in high temperatures. Second, modified large-crystal NMC materials are used for the cathode, improving the thermal stability of the cathode powder. Third, graphene allows for more efficient cooling of the Li-ion battery.

Dr. Li said, "We have performed charging and discharging tests in a high-temperature environment. The tests show that when working parameters are the same, the graphene-assisted high-temperature Li-ion battery is 5°C cooler than ordinary Li-ion batteries. Over 70% of the graphene-assisted battery's capacity is left after it is recharged 2,000 times at a temperature of 60°C. Less than 13% of its capacity is lost after being kept in a 60°C environment for 200 days."

Huawei's research results will reshape the storage systems of communications base stations. In high-temperature regions, outdoor base stations powered by the graphene-assisted high-temperature Li-ion batteries can have working lifespans longer than four years. These batteries ensure a high mileage for electric vehicles per charge in high temperatures. They can also guarantee the safe operation of drones, which often generate a significant amount of heat.

At the 56th Battery Symposium also held in Japan in 2015, Huawei's Watt Laboratory revealed its quick charging technology, which recharges 48% of a 3000mAh battery in just 5 minutes. This technology turned many heads.

The country manager, Huawei Devices, Nigeria, Leo Jiang stated that Huawei has commercialized the quick charging batteries and will announce a super-quick charging mobile phone in 2017.

Flash Charge or Fast Charge?

fast charge
Since the arrival of smartphones into the lives of many phone users, the dilemma has
always been the issue of battery. Smartphones consume a lot of power due to the task they
perform and users have also pushed manufacturers to go the extra mile to find a solution.
While some manufacturers have devised different technology they use for quick
chargers, one of the most prolific is Qualcomm's flash charge 2.0, which comes with the
Infinix Note 3.  Flash charge is a features that allows your phone to charge 5 times
as fast as the normal charger. A number of smartphones have offered a similar solution called
“fast charging” solutions. Other Infinix devices come with the fast charge ability which
charges up to three times as fast as the normal charger.

Flash charge however, allows your phone to charge faster in 5 minutes than the regular
charger!! This is also well pronounced in the Infinix Note 3 smartphone that gives you a talk
time of 200mins after a 5 mins charge time. The flash charge feature goes beyond just the
phone, Infinix has special charger called flash chargers which has an Output of 5A. This
fast charger charges your Infinix device to at least 10% in 5 minutes . When
charging with the flash and fast charger, you notice a dual charging sign on the battery
symbol, this indicates that the phone is flash charging or fast charging phone.

Furthermore, for you to enjoy this flash and fast charging feature, you must have a device that supports fast/flash chargers in order to take advantage of the boost (All Infinix latest devices, Hot note, Hot 3, Hot 4, Hot S, Zero 3& Zero 4) supports the fast charge feature, While the Infinix Note 3 supports the flash charge feature. If you plug a flash charger into an older device, the regulator will still prevent it from overloading your battery. You won't harm your device, but it won't charge any faster. It is advisable to use the fast charger or flash charger that comes with the Infinix smartphone to charge it because the voltage supplied is too high and will in the long run weaken your battery life.

Video with Flash charge test for 5 minutes https://youtu.be/bNf2jXF96BM

Fast and flash chargers are real things and not just an upsell. The fast/flash charge feature in
Infinix devices allows your phone to charge within minutes irrespective of the epileptic
nature of power supply.

How To Use Your Phone As a HotSpot

Internet is the backbone of our fast-paced world, the connectivity to our work and family.
Reliance of humans on the Internet cannot be overemphasized. But what happens when you
are away from that reliable WiFi at home or work?

There's nothing worse than working on the go or trying to access free WiFi and realizing that it is password protected.

If you have a smartphone preferably an Infinix Smartphone then it's possible to turn your
phone into a portable WiFi hotspot using your device's 3G or LTE connection to access the
web, a process called 'tethering'. There is also the latest 4G network option in the case of
Infinix Note 3,Zero 3,Hot 4 Pro and Zero 4 that makes browsing faster.

It's worth remembering to check your network's terms and conditions on tethering and hotspot and keep an eye on your data allowance as it determines your web activities. It is also easy to hit mobile data cap a lot quicker than you think, and trust Nigerian network providers, they might forget to send you a reminder or warning. Exceeding your data limit may result in an unwanted charge (Take Note).

Below are four easy steps on how to set up your phone’s HotSpot.

Step one

From the Home Screen, select the Settings menu. It should look something like this. Tap More...

Use of Power Banks - Yay or Nay?

Power bank
Living in Nigeria can be exciting and equally frustrating. Electricity, power or the way we call it “Light” can really be a huge problem. Naturally we crave for quick fix solutions, and in come the power bank. Most people can attest to the lifesaving effect (It does not let your phone die right?) the power bank has. I don’t mean to be a spoiler but permit me to burst your bubble.

The power bank has a lot of benefits but it kills your phone’s battery. Just think of the power bank as someone giving you something with the right hand and taking it with the left. Beyond that, is the issue of convenience, would it not be wiser for you to buy a phone with great features and strong battery like Infinix Note 3, than to be dragging a power bank along all day?

So here are the disadvantages of using a power bank
Discomfort: One of the major demerits of using portable charging devices is that they can be bulky. They have a thick case and the battery itself is bulky. Because of this, you might sometimes feel it is an additional baggage. No one likes to be dragged down by anything and phones got smaller for good reasons, why would you want to add to that?

Battery Can Get Exhausted: One basic thing is that the power bank is not going to charge itself. So even the power bank needs charging and in most times it gets exhausted faster than the phone. If you travel frequently and remain outdoors for long, you might not have the time to charge even the power bank, forget about the phone. If that’s the case, your power bank will not be able to charge the phone thereby rendering itself useless.

Frivolous Expenditure: We know times are hard, well, Nigeria is now officially in a recession. Buying a power bank may be seen as an unnecessary expenditure, especially for those who hardly travel but stay in one place. If you are stationed in an office, you can easily charge your phone.

Power bank that doesn`t have real output: Some power banks have output that doesn’t match with device (unreal output) usually under what it should be. This means charging your device may take longer. With an Infinix phone, you can get a phone with great battery and the unique flash charge feature, which makes your phone charge faster. There are power banks that are really heavy and bulky. Sure, they may give you all your battery needs, but if they are not conveniently shaped, they might be awkward to bring around.

Do we really need microSD in our phones?

infinix sd card
MicroSD cards are serious business, or at least that's the impression given by the uproar surrounding any major android smartphone that doesn't include a slot for one. But are they really necessary?

There's no denying that they can be appealing. Regardless of how much storage a smartphone has, a microSD card can boost it even up to 128GB. That can certainly be useful for anyone who wants to jam their phone full of media, but even if you don't, it's comforting to have that safety net, knowing that the storage is there if you need it. But do you need it? Really?

Recently Infinix launched their Infinix Hot S and it generated some hot debate because though the phone has a 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM but users talked more about its hybrid SIM. You might argue that there's no downside to having a microSD card slot even if it's not likely to get used, but that is not entirely true.

A microSD card slot is not necessarily desirable even when it can easily be included. Because while microSD cards sound good on paper in reality they can hugely impact a phone’s performance. So Infinix did a smart thing by providing a hybrid option in their Hot S, meaning you can use either a dual SIM at once or a SIM and an SD card.

According to a study at the Georgia Institute of technology, using a microSD card in your phone can cause it to become sluggish, with even basic tasks like web browsing suffering as a result. Overall performance can often drop by between 100% and 300% and in one case the study found that there was an incredible 2000% decrease in performance. Do you still need that SD card?

The reason for the performance loss is simple, microSD cards themselves are not fast enough. They can't keep up with the power and speed packed into modern smartphones. Though some are better at this than others and the brand and class of card you choose will have a big impact.

An average smartphone user in Nigeria uses on the average 8GB of internal memory on his/her mobile device. It then means that having a phone like the Infinix Hot S with 2GB RAM and 16 or 32GB ROM (internal memory) is more than enough.

Given the rate that storage has increased so far in phones like the Infinix Hot S and Hot 4, will that be the death of the microSD card? Well, that is likely to happen sooner rather than later and when it does microSD cards will become a lot less desirable.

Master The Fun Art Of Taking A Perfect Selfie

taking selfies
Taking a selfie could be fun especially when you are with friends, but are you really taking the perfect selfie? Taking the perfect selfie is more than just taking regular pictures, it is an art. What's more, knowing how many selfies to post and which selfies to use on what social media platform is a much higher form of art. In this post I will be explaining how to master the art of taking a perfect selfie with your smartphone camera.

Know your good/bad side
We all have bad sides. The advantage to being your own photographer is that you can decide not to show your less flattering qualities with a few tricks. To make your face look slimmer, shoot your selfie from slightly above.

Use Good Light
There's nothing worse than a photograph taken with poor light, but with phones like Infinix Hot 3 and Hot S that comes with soft flash you don’t need to worry much about quality of light, you can take that selfie both in day time and at night.

Use face beautification feature
If you're using your smart phone to snap those selfies, you can do them a lot of good by applying a filter. Again, Infinix phones comes with face beautification features that makes social media filters irrelevant to you. They can also give your photo that element of cool that you can't give it by deliberately attempting to look cool when that shutter fires. Because you know there's nothing quite as uncool as trying to look cool. Which brings me to my next point:

Don't be too serious
taking selfies
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with taking life seriously. But you should never, ever take your selfie too seriously. Your selfie should never make it look like you're trying too hard. With most Infinix phones you can take a selfie by mere saying “cheese”, “capture” or mere smile. It should look like you snapped that photo casually, like you were just out and about and it suddenly occurred to you to turn the camera around and grab an impromptu photo of yourself, which of course turned out to be awesome.

Stage it
taking selfies
Choose your location wisely. Your kitchen, in front of a pile of last night's dishes? Not a good place for a selfie. Your selfie should be taken with the background in mind. So wait to take your latest Facebook profile pic when you are in a stunning location, say in front of the National Theatre in Lagos or in front of Zuma rock. This will not only make for a better portrait, it will also paint you as a person who is interesting, and who does things besides just take pictures of herself with her Infinix phone.

Do Something Interesting
taking selfies

For a truly interesting and post able selfie, do something interesting, something to make your image stand out from all those other millions of selfies out there.

Don't Overdo It
You should take a lot of selfies, because that's the best way to ensure you end up with a good one. But you should only post a very small percentage of the selfies you take. Keep your selfie posting to a minimum. Beyond that, selfie photography can be a lot of fun and there's no reason why you shouldn't indulge in it as much as you like. Just remember that old expression, "everything in moderation." Take lots of selfie with your Infinix phone, but post fewer finer ones online. It's really easy to overdo those selfies.

I hope this article helps you in the quest of taking a good selfie. Dont forget to drop your feedback using the comment section.
